The Polytechnic School of the University of Montreal, popularly known among applicants as the Montreal Polytechnic University, is one of UdeM’s sub-faculties and ranks first in engineering research in Canada.

At the Polytechnic School, various academic programs are offered in fields related to Chemical, Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Physical, Civil Engineering, and other engineering disciplines. Nearly six thousand students receive academic admission from this institution annually, and their population continues to grow each year. The research achievements of the Polytechnic School have made it well-known, separate from the parent university, among applicants for these fields of study.

University of Montreal Canada Admission Requirements

This French-speaking university, one of the four universities in Montreal, is one of the top public and research universities in the province and also issues academic admissions to applicants for educational immigration. To receive admission from this educational institution, specific conditions and documents, depending on the field and academic level, must be prepared and submitted on time to the international student admission office.

According to advanced education regulations, applicants for admission must present a valid language certificate (English or French) with a high score to prove their proficiency in the language of instruction. As per the University of Montreal’s rules, international applicants must participate in a French language proficiency test; if their level meets the university's minimum requirement (at least B1), they can start their specialized course without restrictions. Otherwise, the student must attend a French language course before starting their major at UdeM and enter the main program after acquiring the necessary skills.

If the applicant has chosen UdeM’s English-language programs, they must provide a valid English language certificate with an average to high score (equivalent to an IELTS score of 6.5 or above) to prove their understanding of the course content.

Applying to the University of Montreal

After gathering, translating, and scanning the required documents for educational immigration, the next step is completing UdeM’s application form. In the end, the applicant must attach the scanned documents to the application form. After submitting the application, the university’s admission platform sends an email to the applicant, informing them that the application has been submitted and providing a tracking code for future follow-ups. At this stage, a fee of 105.50 CAD is required to assess the applicant's academic status. For research and postdoctoral applicants, this fee is listed as 11.30 CAD.

Before taking any steps to apply for UdeM admission, it is important to pay attention to the university’s application and registration deadlines. We recommend starting your application six months before UdeM’s classes and educational programs begin, as the process of receiving academic admission and then a study visa is time-consuming, and any delay may result in postponing your studies in Canada by a term or even a full academic year.

The deadlines for applications (academic admission, dormitory reservations, or scholarships), registrations, payments, etc., are announced annually. Generally, UdeM’s deadline for the fall semester is February 1st, the winter semester’s deadline is September 1st, and the summer semester’s deadline is also February 1st.

Note that international students only have six months before the start of classes to submit their applications, complete their documents, and send payment receipts.

Tuition Fees at the University of Montreal

The tuition fees at UdeM depend on the academic level and program of study. UdeM’s academic programs are held annually across three terms (fall, winter, and summer); therefore, the academic programs are planned more intensively and briefly than other Canadian universities. The average tuition fee for international students is announced to be approximately 8,186 CAD, with a thesis course fee of 425 CAD.
