University of Alberta Admission Requirements

Admission requirements for the University of Alberta depend on the applicant's academic background. Success in this process depends on three factors: grades, English language proficiency, and completion of the required courses.

English Language Proficiency Requirements:

English language proficiency is assessed in two categories: general English language skills and speaking skills.

Accepted English Language Proficiency Tests:

• TOEFL: Minimum score of 90
• IELTS: Minimum score of 6.5
• CAEL: Minimum score of 70
• MELAB: Minimum score of 85
• PTE: Minimum score of 61
• CPE and CAE: Minimum score of 180
• CanTEST: Minimum score of 4.5

Speaking skills in English are also a requirement for admission. The minimum speaking score for the TOEFL is 26 and the minimum speaking score for the IELTS is 7.5.

Additional Requirements:

• Completion of 5 relevant high school courses with a passing grade.
• Some programs may require GRE or GMAT scores in addition to the above documents.

The University of Alberta awards over $32 million annually in scholarships, awards, and financial aid to undergraduate students, including many international students. Notably, University of Alberta students are eligible to receive more than one scholarship.

Eligibility:

Most scholarships at the University of Alberta are based on the applicant's admission average at the time of admission. Upon acceptance to UAlberta, students are automatically considered for multiple scholarships.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP: Students with a strong academic record who are first-time undergraduate applicants to the University of Alberta and have a student visa can receive up to $9,000 CAD in scholarship funding based on their admission average.

UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA INTERNATIONAL COUNTRY SCHOLARSHIP: Students with a strong academic record who are first-time undergraduate applicants to the University of Alberta and have a student visa can receive up to $5,000 CAD in scholarship funding.

UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA INTERNATIONAL ENTRANCE CITATION: Students with a high admission average who are first-time undergraduate applicants to the University of Alberta and have a student visa can receive up to $40,000 CAD in scholarship funding.

UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA CENTENARY SCHOLARSHIP: Students with a high admission average who demonstrate leadership qualities and are first-time undergraduate applicants to the University of Alberta and have a student visa can receive up to $30,000 CAD (payable over 4 years).

INTERNATIONAL ENTRANCE LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP: Applicants with an admission average of 80% and who are first-time undergraduate applicants to the University of Alberta and have a student visa are evaluated for this scholarship and, if successful, can receive up to $7,500 CAD in scholarship funding.
